Here's another psychological trick that will help you boost your conversions on most CL(or non CL) related campaigns where your offering say a job or a house or a free toaster etc.

When your asking your potential lead to fill out an offer, they feel like they are being taken advantage of and therefore most of the smart ones either disregard you as spam/scammer or they don't want to be taken advantage of.

A way to bypass this metal block is to give them an option, however you need to anticipate which way they will choose.

Many magicians use this method to complete tricks.
They give you the "illusion" that you are choosing a card of your own free will, however they have manipulated you in a way that they already know what you are going to do before you do it.

The simplest version of this would be for a job offer. Lets say you sent somebody a reply email that says : Go to my site and enter your zip, that way i can know which branch you will be working with.

    Or you could say this:

Well, you have two options at this point. You can call us at (xxx) 555-5555 Ext 1276 . When the assistant answers ( her names sherri ) ask to talk to Mark from location services. The other option is to go to our homepage www.link.com and enter your zip. We will automatically place you and give you further instructions.

Of course we already know that these CL people are very lazy to say the least, and they really don't want to call, enter the extention, and talk to the HEAD of location services.

I personally don't promote via CL very much anymore but I do use this trick ( along with others ) in almost all of my other campaigns.

That was just an example, as this can be implemented into any campaign to raise conversion rates.

    Enjoy.

I can't believe nobody is saying thanks to this.
This is brilliant. Thanks for the share.

@Jcsarokin, since you don't personally post ads on Craigslist anymore, (without exposing your methods) do you mind sharing to us methods that you think is most profitable? Or I don't mind getting a PM from you about this.

    Thanks again for the info!

Great approach man, we all know that people will almost always choose the easiest of the two when given one that's a little more time consuming.

The key is giving them the choice which adds credibility.

    Thanks for the share

so basically we just input some random number that doesn't even exist?
Or should we set up a voicemail?
    Thanks

Personally what I would do if I were to use this method(which i will) would be to set up just an account to where you can record the intro for sherri so to speak give the people on the ad the number and the pin

i.e. call 555-555-1234 and when asked for the pin enter 14543# and you will be able to leave a message with sherri or mark.

This way if you get the few that do decide to call you can still capture that lead as well.

    Just a thought.

I use vumber dot com for this. You can actually change the number at any time also. That helps credibility if you are geo targeting.

If you can make the option 1 sound far more complicated, then they will almost never choose it.

The people that do choose it, you have to just concider them as lost leads, cuz your not going to convert them anyways. ( just like most people would right off the bat say "oh this is bullshit" ... You cant convert those people )

Thanks for both the interesting trick and turning me on to Vumber.. that site will come in very handy I think! Too bad they don't have Canadian numbers, but that can be worked around...

Yeah Vumber is actually pretty cool.

You dont even need to setup a number, as anyone who calls it, is automatically a lost lead. Make sure option 1 is Far harder and more complicated then option 2

Awesome idea. thanks for sharing. how would you suggest to word it if they are already on your site and considering a $200 to 300 purchase and you want to just order and email any question rather than actually calling.

Haha wow I've been waiting for something like this. I think things like this is what separates the actual blackhatters and the wishIwasablackhatters.

This tip alone is so good that it's just not fair to let it rest at the bottom of the forum from the last year... Maybe someone else will take advantage of it in July 2010... HTH.
