One of my client's site dropped from #3 to #100+ for it's main money kw.

I did a manual analysis of links from GWT and found 100+ links, all do-follow, coming from one domain, all targeting the money kw anchor.

There was a sidebar on the linking domain which had the money anchor linking back to my client site.

Funny enough, the domain which was linking to the client site is also owned by my client and back in the day, their seo created this link.

Anyways, I have gone ahead and removed the sidebar link which was site wide.

I will update you guys on any movement in regards to recovery. Currently, its dancing.

I have also built diversity in regards to links and anchors ever since the drop.

We only lost ranking for that one money kw. Other kws are still positions #1 - #3 for the URL. So yes, I am assuming something did occur as this website is 4 years old and was holding ranking for that kw for about 8 months or so consistently before the drop.



I would not be able to answer that ... the numbers of links and your own anchor profile would play a factor I am sure.

Just think about it.. there is no way its natural for a domain to be linking to another from a sidebar and on top of that with the money anchor.



Drop occurred about 45 days ago. At first, the kw danced from going to #50 ish to #9 then disappearing and coming back in top 100 and then finally not coming back at all in the top 100.
