I've recently bought about 7 domains, I've no plans for them but planning to keep.
Is it effective if I redirect them to my main site?

how will you drive traffic by redirecting other empty sites?
better to advertise your main site.

No it's not. How natural it is to redirect 7 domains? Also, domains redirect both anchor and backlinks. I can't imagine the mess that a redirect of 7 domain leaves. Not to mention it's not like you just take the domain and redirect it. In order for process to work (if it will even work), you have to rank them for your keywords at least somewhere, let them age for a few months and then redirect. If it's low end domains though, then do not bother with redirects at all.

If redirects do not work then what's the point of buying expired domains in the first place?

Making PBN out of them is the number #1 reason of buying them. Then there's a very long pause and maybe then come redirects.
