Quick Question - What is better Preseeling or Email?

So I was thinking about the entire build a website thing, SEO it up and make some sales. So that got me thinking about better ways to make more money off that thingy.

So what is better. doing the normal thing which = building a website, SEO, and make sales OR building a website, SEO, capture leads, and make sales.
