Quick question - should I update old post?

As from your experience should I update old post (from 2014)?

I have a site with about 100 posts, for the example, let say that the old post, 50 for our example does not have inner links and external links, tags, h2 etc, it was a lot of text without really organizing it…

Should I rewrite/update them or just leave them as they are now?

Another question, should I tweet old post that was not already tweet on twitter from the site ( as it was before I use twitter)?

Hey,

If you want to update post, you can do it.
Don't post similar type content. Better update information if needed.

Please create internal linking between similar posts.

Definitely post your old post to Twitter. It still has value.

If the post is still relevant today and is targeting keywords with decent search volume, I will do no harm to update it.

I think you should update old posts because, like myself, I don't like reading outdated correspondence especially from blogs since it may also contain archaic information which I don't need. I would want something fresh that is currently working and is capable of helping me with whatever it is that I want done. The first thing that I look out for in blogs is the date when it was written or revised. Regarding re-posting or re-tweeting old posts, probably best if you tweak it a little bit to give it a new angle/view just in case other people who've seen it would stumble upon it again.

If you are going to optimize them and organize them, of course! The interesting thingy I was thinking about while reading this. News outlets update their old posts often and they appear in google when search for things posted in the last hour. Does updating the article give it a fresh google ping or something, or is that a news thing?

This is a critical step actually. If you just add few outbound or inbound links, rewrite headings or sub headings, it wont make any improvement if that is your aim. And if you are already has decent ranking for that page, you might loose your rankings too.

So, it is important whenever you make changes to any old content, you change or re write some part of the content as well. Especially couple of sentences before and after the link added.

You can definitely update that post, but please note that when the content change, and if the content already has some ranking for specific keywords on the search engine, the ranking may dance a little due to the changing keyword from the content of the post.
