Do EMD still work in 2022?
I have an affiliate site that I am trying to rank. Right now I am ranking for a few keywords on page 2 to 3 of google.

I am thinking about buying an exact match domain related to my niche and transferring all the content of my current site to it.

Competitors in my niche have a partial match domain.

About Domain

I found an expired exact match domain with .in TLD (the TLD of the country I am trying to rank). But the domain has a spam score of 63 with no achieve.org data.

So my main questions are:

• Do buying & using the Exact Match domain will help in the ranking?
• Does spam score matter and if yes what can I do to lower it?

Moving to New domain? Do you mean 301 redirection? Or replacing the whole domain name with your expired domain?

Ignore spam score. Just check the quality of Backlinks, Anchor text ratio, and recent crawl status by visiting site:yourdomain.com

These are preliminary checks. There are some great guides on buying expired domains in BHW. @Nargil has some great expired domain deals as well.

Yes, replacing the whole domain with an expired exact match domain.

The domain doesn't have any URLs indexed and doesn't have any quality backlinks. I am thinking about buying it because it's an EMD and exactly what I am trying to rank for.

Is it worth trying?

You’re sure that it has that high of a spam score with no backlinks indexed? How old is the domain? Have you check the archives of the domain to see what content was on the site previously?

I mean website URLs are not indexed not backlinks.

1. It won't be very significant reputation wise. But be aware that it sounds correct in the SERPS which means higher conversion rate

2. Spam Score is just a algorithm to calculate the amount of shit domains that point to a site. You cannot lower it, but you can disavow those incoming links. It's simply an indicator to help you out separate the wheat from the chaff when you bulk check for possible useful domains to take. If you see a high spam score domain which has good other metrics, you can select it, and take your time to see the linking profile putting special attention in the fact that an algorithm has detected that possible spammy profile. See it just as a heads up to digg further. But if it has a good amount of quality links, and a huge amount of shitty links, you could simply disavow them and keep the domain for your good use.

Also be aware, that a huge spam score, could have attached a manual action in Google Search Console, so if you finally decide to buy it, put it on GSC to check this and to avoid wasting your time in a penalized domain.

I'm just guessing, talking from my own experience in searching for expired domains...

95% of the time, it's a waste of time buying ED.

Expired = Age will reset from the time you get it.

Anyway, as I said, in 9 out of 10 [at least] cases, it's a waste of time.

My suggestion is to always dig deep, do some solid research before buying.

Once you buy it, it takes a lot of time to set it all up, a lot of effort to come up with some visible result.

Most people think it's enough to find a similar domain, buy it without any search, do a 301, or build backlinks to their sites and just because it has DA 20 PA 20 TF 20 [example], boost is guaranteed.

Btw, I'm not talking about you OP, in general, this is the situation, as always, there will always be differences between the realistic effects and unrealistic expectations.
