What do you prefer : online shopping or buying from local stores ?

Lately I have noticed I default to online for convenience , but sometimes local stores just feel more reliable ( especially for quality + instant pickup ).

At the same time , online deals + variety are hard to beat.

Interested to hear how you guys approach it in 2026
Are you mostly sticking with online shopping now , or still buying from local stores when it makes sense?

Depends on what your are buying. Electronics good for online shopping for best rate. other thing that matters quality check in fron of your eyes should be bought locally.

If I need something right away and it’s on the pricier side, I’ll go to a store. For everything else, I default to online. Hard to beat the convenience.

I think me preferring to shop online is tied to not really wanting to go out. I try to build a list of things I need in the house weekly and errands I need to attend to and then whenever I have a chance where I have to go out I make sure I run everything at once.

It is really hard for me to say I want to go to the mall twice a week.
Once I miss it, maybe I forgot to get something I needed that i did'nt add to my list then it needs to wait for the following week : D

Most times when I need to do laundry or visit my pal... that is the day I take the chance to go to the mall and get the things I need

For me, it depends entirely on what I'm buying. If it's something that spoils quickly like fruits, vegetables, or meat, so I try to buy it at specialty stores or markets. Everything else I buy online with delivery (gadgets, clothes, etc.)

All others are online
It's the way the world goes

Online for most things, local for a specific few.

For commodities (electronics, clothing, household items) — online every time. The selection, price comparison, and delivery have made local stores nearly redundant for anything that isn't time-sensitive or experience-based.

But local still wins in three cases for me:

1. **Food and produce** — supermarkets > delivery apps for freshness and you can actually pick what you want
2. **Anything urgent** — if I need it today, a 2-day Prime ship doesn't help
3. **High-consideration physical items** — furniture, shoes, anything where fit or feel matters. I don't want to deal with returns on a $300 chair.

The interesting trend though: local stores have become "showrooms" for online purchases. I'll try on shoes in-store then order the right size online for 20% less. Retailers hate it but that's the behavior now.

In 2026 the gap has only widened. Same-day delivery has removed the last real advantage local had for convenience items.

I'm almost exclusively offline.

I know there's slightly better deals online, but the stores I shop at are my clients, and my referral sources. Maintaining a local rapport helps them see me as a local community member they can speak with face-to-face, not some far-off corporation with endless telephone trees and AI support.

I still prefer local shops. Being able to touch & feel the product just makes the whole experience better and more satisfying.
If something isn’t available or pricing is too high, then I check online for deals. So mostly offline first, online as backup

Simply, wherever is cheaper.

Some are cheaper locally some are cheaper online
