Quick Question About Keywords

I'm trying to find a good, low competition keyword to rank for my site in the health & fitness niche.

I was looking for a keyword tracker tool but couldn't find any free ones so went over to the AdWords Keyword Planner. Note, I don't want to start an adwords campaign, I want to rank through SEO.

However, it's saying that the keyword 'bodybuilder' is a low competition keyword with average monthly searches of 110,000.

How is that not a competitive keyword? Am I getting confused with two completely different things? I'm fairly new to IM as you can tell by my join date and I've only just started to learn about SEO so please explain in layman's terms.

Really appreciate any input :)

The low competition in Google Keyword Planner means low comp beween advertisers. It doesn't mean it's low comp to rank with.
If you are serious in getting deep into IM then I would invest in a keyword/SEO tool such as Long Tail Pro or Market Samurai. Both of these offer free trials so you can trial both and decide which one you get on with best. I've tried both and I ended up buying the full version of Market Samurai. It's good but a lot of its results are taken from Bing, not Google which is a bit of a pain. Long Tail Pro is better in some ways, although if money is not an issue I would have both.
Good Luck with your venture and stick with it, ride the highs and lows and you'll get there...eventually!

Bodybuilding and such are high competition keywords. Anything in the health/fitness camp is high competition, unless you're getting into a brand new product or unseen idea(rare thing).
 
Low competition here means not many advertisers are looking to gain visitors from this key word.

Ah that makes sense. Is there any free alternative to those programs? Don't really have money to invest at the moment.

Are there anything decent free keywords tool? I just need to do SEO for my own website

Why don't you take the free trials, when they expire re-register with a different email address. Keep doing this until you've earned enough from the free trials to buy the registered version, problem solved! It won't take long if you work at it.
