QUICK keyword url question for the community

Hello everybody,

Just a quick question for you regarding keywords and URL domain names...

All target keywords have been taken

How bad or does it really matter... if i add the word "the" in front of the keywords I was targeting for the URL.

will adding the word "the" in front of what I would have preferred to have picked up cause any problems? if so how bad, cause i seem to be out of options for this particular launch.

I have heard some people say that Google and other engines don't place a lot of weight on adjectives like the but in my opinion it could drastically affect how you want to rank for your target terms. Your success with the "close as you can get" EMD you are looking for may depend on what it is exactly. For instance when you type a word into Google (submarine for example), you get what you would expect, websites about submarines, images of submarines, etc. When you add the word "the" in front of it, you get a famous band by the name of The Submarines. My guess is that you may have to work harder to rank for the same terms if you add the word the to the URL. You may do just as well buying some other domain and just having a page with your target keyword and trying to rank for that.

you'd better add a modification to the end of the domain name rather than the beginning.. but I personally think it doesn't matter too much. search algorithms take into account a large number of factors, and your domain name is just one of them, and adding "the" to the front is just a small tweak of that one factor.

Yeah, I originally wanted to add an extra relevant keyword at the end of the domain however the most commonly searched for terms have already been taken. My bad for taking so long I guess =P
