Hi everyone,

I have a quick question about Google My Business rankings. In a fairly large city in Houston, our restaurant has been around for 10+ years. A relatively new one popped up about 2 years ago. Their site is not properly optimized for SEO with titles/meta, site content, and a Ahrefs DR rating of 15. They have only 150 reviews. My restaurant has 1,500 REAL reviews, lots of foot traffic, a very well optimized site, local press, and a DR rating of 45. Both are within .1 miles of each other, so location isn't really a factor as well.

For some reason, they are always on the #1 position for the last year and mine is at #2 which baffles me. Am I missing something with GMBs? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

No one can draw any conclusion with the information that you provided. There are many factors involved in GMB rankings. Can you please share your GMB URL, so, I may check for the possibilities to outrank your competitor?

Regular Posting , Images, Videos, Positive Reviews, and adding Your GMB listing on few Web2.0's with embed code and by adding a relevant article.

I focus on all these things and I always See Positive Changes in my GMB listing

Thank you very much !

GMB uses a lot of user signals to help with ranking. This is stuff you can’t optimize for. You can try manipulating with your own phone or maybe a few phones.

Do both of your names contain the same keyword?

If you're referring to SERP, that's gonna be all on-page + links. For GMB, that's mostly proximity, reviews, on-page, backlinks.

I'd recommend first checking out localfalcon.com and doing a real local test to determine whether they're really #1 or just weird cookie stuff with google.
