A few days ago, a handfull of my sites got a 'pure spam' warning. One of which was making me a decent amount of money while it was ranking.

After the hit, i did a double 301 redirect to a month old site that was targeting the same kws.

Before the redirect, the new site was ranking on pages 2 and 3 for all kws.

This morning I checked my rank tracker to find that they had bounced to the top of page one.

I have been randomly checking over the past few hours and the rankings have gone back to pages 2/3

Im no expert when it comes to 301s as iv not done one in years

So my question is.. is this normal? Should i expect the rankings to shoot back up?

You should give it a few more weeks if you have only just done the 301 redirect, I've noticed the same thing in the past where results fluctuate quite a bit shortly after adding the redirect.

2 kws have jumped back up to top 3 today :)

Im just gonna forget about the site for a week and start building another one

Just one little problem: The "pure spam" penalty is 100% onpage, no links involved. So, it's only a matter of time till it hits again. Doesn't mean it can't work, but if you are unlucky you'll burn quite a few domains quickly.

Be careful not to leak through the source URL or it may result in your site bouncing.

In other means try acquiring official backlinks so you keep official rankings.

The site eventually settled in the top 5 spots (a few spots down from where it used to rank, but this may be because of link loss through the 301s), so I pointed 10 PBNs at them and the site is now ranked number 1 on all kws

Awesome buddy. Glad you got your income stream back.

I had my site hit 2 days ago and I've set up a double 301 redirect yesterday. Can you tell me how long did it take for your site to get the ranking back?

Cant really put a timescale on it TBH. I have had rankings come back within 48 hours, and had some sites that never even reach the top 100 (even a month later). From my testing, it is kind of hit and miss if the double 301 will work.

The site I talked about at the start of the thread, the site was back in the top 3 within a few days (think it was about 3/4 days)

I think that the time it takes to come back will depend on a few different factors such as, amount of backlinks, quality of backlinks and how often the links are crawled. The more high quality links you have that are crawled daily, the faster the ranking should come back. (Just a theory, I could be wrong. If anyone can correct me then please let us know)

Yes, the rankings of the new site will hold for a while, may be a month or so. After that it will start falling off. IMO, you should start building more backlinks to your new site. The backlinks of your old site are pulling up the rankings of the new site, but the effect wanes off after a particular period. So, you need to support them with new backlinks as the effect of your old site backlinks keep waning off.

how did it work for you both? Did it stick??

Anyone still having success with this? I've come up with method where you do the double 301, but then pass the "juice" to a "trusted" property like Pinterest and then the taget site. Initial testing seems good. I will update with results.
