Questions regarding optimizing inner pages on other sites

Hi all, I would really appreciate help on this topic.

Here's a hypothetical example;

E-Zine articles is ranking number 2 for the term "blue widgets" and the page displayed is a standard article on the subject. Can you optimize your article on that site and it will be displayed on the number 2 postition instead of the existing article?

If so, can you take the number one spot for e-zine if you keep optimizing?

Is this common practise or is there a method to it?

In answer to your question . . yes, it can be done .. however, there is an art to doing so ..

Firstly get yourself a copy of the 'blue widgets' article and run it through a piece of software that will indicate the %age density of the 'blue widgets' keyword phrase ..

Now, write an original article of the same keyword phrase with a slightly higher density if possible, although this is now difficult to do since EZA has capped the density at 4% maximum ...HOWEVER ..

Due to LSI (latent semantic indexing) variables you can increase the density on your article a little further if you know what those LSI markers are ... in other words, look for words with similar characteristics to the original keywords, in your case 'blue' +'widgets' which would translate to semantics of ..

widgets = gadget, apparatus, contraption, device, gizmo etc
blue = azure, navy,cobalt, sapphire etc.

this would 'kick up' your overall density without triggering the EZA 4% rule and still look pretty good in the eyes of google ... try also to include longer tail phrases & slightly obscure phrases to help in the indexing thereof ..

Like I said, it can be done, but you really have to know what your doing to succeed ... DO NOT overdo the LSI though as this will trigger the Google markings ..

The simple answer to linkbuilding is yes ... but take it down a notch when doing so, think of it more as a little promotion ...

DO NOT blast anything directly at the article itself .. be gentle, else you will throw up red flags on the EZA website .. I managed to trigger one the other day with just one tweet !

If possible try and get a bookmarking ring going AND not too many at a time, EZA is VERY fragile at the moment and VERY jumpy about looking like a link farm after getting their backsides smashed by the wrathful google god .. I can assure you there were some very high profile meetings that went on after panda

Be gentle and everything will be fine, allow the 'organic' growth via publishers / RSS feeds to happen naturally and just help it along a little .. note .. a little !
