Questions for a techie

So Im at a disagreement with my partner. He wants to get a VPS with a gigabyte fiber line to the server.

I want to build a local server top of the line and run it at the office which is 30 down 5 up connection.

His point of view is alot of stuff we do goes through the 1000 proxies we have. I don't think a gig connections is needed and will blow our socks off over having a machine at the office.

Can anyone confirm or deny this for me

Really depends on what your doing, but me personally being in "Corp IT" for a lot of years would stay with having a local server because it will pay for itself pretty quick and also the fact you have total control of the box. Would really need more info on what your using it for to analyze which would be better.

The 1st question would be: how available does this box need to be?
