Is it possible for a rival to link spam to my website to force me to drop the ranking or remove the exposure?

Yeah it’s possible, especially if your site is still fresh or doesn’t have much authority yet. A sudden spike of toxic or over-optimized links can throw off your profile and trigger algo drops.

Google ignores a lot of junk, but not everything, at scale, it can still cause damage. If it ever happens, keep an eye on your link graph and disavow before it snowballs.

You can also report spammy links straight to Google using their spam report form and disavow them in Search Console. That flags the bad links and stops them from hurting your site.

Yes, its possible - called "negative SEO". But Google's algorithm is smarter now and usually ignores spammy links. Still, its good to monitor your backlinks and block harmful ones using the Search Console if needed.
