I am trying to create a website that aggregates niche product listings from various sites (twitter, facebook, eBay, amazon). I have the idea all mapped out however I am having some struggles executing. I have knowledge of database programs such as Excel (Advanced), FileMaker (Intermediate), SQL (beginner). I have created the framework for the database both on Excel and FileMaker, however I'm having trouble hosting this database to the website. I've considered easier places to host the website such as WordPress, which I would need an OBDC to translate my FileMaker template to SQL. However, a $2000 purchase of MySQL isn't very appealing.

I've attached a sample template of what I was using on FileMaker Pro.

This is a basic idea of how I want my site to look, with listings and filters to the left. http://solecollector.com/Sneakers/Marketplace/

Any advice helps at all, I am just getting lost and could use any guidance/advice.

WHAT SHOULD I DO? WHAT SHOULD I USE? WHAT WOULD BE EASIEST?

    Hi Ill Cosby

I am a little confused about the monetization of the site you are planning:
    - Do you want to create an ecommerce site?
    - Or a site that simply shows listings from other sources as content and is monetized otherwise?

If what you want is an ecommerce site: Go for Magento - its free and very flexible and it offers modules wich allow you to import products from Platforms suchs as amazon, ebay...

Else go for Wordpress and a RSS - Feed Scraper or the like

    Cheers

How would I go about getting a free copy of MySQL that allows me to use an ODBC?

I am not creating an ecommerce site. I'm just using my site as a database for buyers to reference to when looking for a product across the web.

Where would you recommend going for hosting? Would like something cheap and reliable. Isn't a huge amount of info to be stored on this website either

    Sure this would work...

If you have a copy of Mountain Lion X server OSX and a Mac (Hardware) - perfect you are ready to go..."
If you don't have a Mac (Hardware) but a regular workstation you will need to modify the installer of the OS (theres a line in the installer wich checks for the Device Type simply set to: "false" and it should work) - for more info google "Hackintosh"...

    Cheers
