Questions about domains / subdomains

I've been in IM for about two years now and am interested in autoblogging. I have signed up for a free autoblog service so I can learn how to start my own autoblogs.

My question is that: These free autoblog hosts have hundreds / thousands of subdomains, one for each user's autoblog. Yet, they still hold positions in google.

So why would I buy 500 domain names and set up 500 wordpress blogs, install plugins, set them all up, etc......rather than buy one domain name, put buddypress / wpmu on it, install plugins, and create 500 subdomains in an eighth of the time?

I know that I could get the entire site deindexed, but other than that, is that the only risk? If so, then I could just buy 10 domains, 10 hosting plans, set up 10 wpmu / buddypress sites, and host 500 autoblogs on each one...so if one got deindexed, I'd have nine more, which would be 4500 autoblogs...

Maybe someone with more experience in autoblogging can explain why everyone hosts individual autoblogs.

I believe that the problems arise if you start linking the sub-domains together (i.e. a link farm setup). As long as they act independently from each other Big G is none the wiser. I'm hardly the expert though.

I currently have about 15 autoblogs all sub-domains. They index just fine and in general seem to be slowly growing and I'm starting to see some revenue trickle in after 2 weeks.

I honestly don't know at this point why I would want to buy 15 domains when my 15 subs are working ok at the moment. I suppose if I start to make some serious money I may start to get paranoid.

Just my 2 cents.
 
Okay then. I will do a small test of 15 to 20 autoblogs on subdomains. I guess I will try using hostgator for the hosting, as what I have now, godaddy, doesn't do wildcard dns...

May I ask what kind of revenue you are making from the first two weeks and are you using WP robot, autoblogged or wp-o-matic?
 
Linking between subdomains would be a "problem" like Isendale states (note that it is not really a problem, it's just that these links would be devalued by Google). But since linking between your own sites probably is not in your backlink plan, this should not affect you.

One other important thing to consider right now is that with the release of Wordpress 3.0, they are incorporating WPMU functionality into every WP installation. This is a "biggie" when it comes to setting up subdomain blogs like you are thinking about doing. You would only have to purchase/maintain one domain, but could have as many subdomain blogs as you like. Since it is always better to have your own domain and not risk the chance of your account (and therefore all your blogs) being deleted this is the wise thing to do.
 
That is just what I will do. I already run some WH wordpress sites, so I have experience in that area.

I plan on buying one domain name, loading WP 3.0 / WPMU and having multiple subdomains.

Blogging has been a decent earner for me, but it just takes sooo long, which is why I have decided to autoblog. I don't plan on linking the autoblogs on subdomains together whatsoever.

I haven't done any testing myself and am very keen to find out results of your one. I was thinking about the same thing the other day. With deindexing is a good point, plus may be if/when you flip the site you'll get more for 10 separate domain based then for one with 10 subdomains. Apart from these two I can not see any big disadvantages to go your way [may be one more - not all themes and plugins are good to run on WP MU]. The set up cost are gonna be less, that's for sure.

I'm using wprobot elite version. This was a nice investment imo.

When I say revenue is trickling in, I mean that literally hehe. I figure 2 weeks is not long enough to even gauge any type of success yet.

Since you are experienced with blogs you know they need to mature a bit to see any real money. My goal is 1 AB a day until I hit 100 then see how things go. At this point I'll consider this a success if I'm making $.50 per blog by Fall time-frame.
 
I forgot to add that I also learned about AB by taking advantage of the free blogs some of the BH members are providing. This is a great way to see if AB is right for you or not.

My advice to others is to quickly get your own domain and hosting if you are serious about giving AB'ing a go.

The free blogs are great for learning but not a wise long term business plan. :cool:
 
I also learned about autoblogging from the free services lol. Great teaching tools.

I am in the same process with my AB niche's.

I Have 5 AB sites currently. Each with their own .com domain with the main keyword in the domain name.

Im paying for my annual web hosting account (hostgator) then each .com domain costs me $7 Per/yr from Godaddy.

My question for you is, do you plan on doing 49AB sites with each of them being subdomains off of one domain?

or

49AB sites on all .com .net .org etc.. domains? (Costly)
 
I am interested of that "free autoblog service."

Can you share that to us here?
 
Freestar... there are at least 2 free autoblog services advertised in this blogging forum.

area99 - I am planning on buying a few domain names, and creating multiple subdomains on each domain. There will be one separate autoblog per subdomain. The domain will be a generic blogging phrase and the subdomains will be keyword rich.
 
don't interlink them unless you are hosting all on different c class ip's. Just my thoughts on it, not an autoblog fan however.

I agree. They are not going to be interlinked whatsoever. The only thing linking them is that they are all subdomains on one main domain...

Much like blogger blogs on blogspot... Same concept.
