questions about 301 permanent redirection

Hi,

Stupid question. I currenty have a site that is well ranked in google (site a) and want to issue 301 permanent redirection on it to my new site (site b).

Will google still index the older site (site a) ?

I tried 301s and you loose the juice of the old site considerably. You are better using the old site domain name and just redoing the content to the new site. Age of domain is important.
