I registered a domain some days ago.
The domain has also been used in the past, couple of years ago. Can this have a negative influence on the Indexing or ranking?

I personally wouldn't be worried. Google will see that the domain has a new owner.

What does it mean if a domain is "sandboxed". I read it sometimes on BHW.

if the domain name is useful to you and suite to your website purpose then i think you able to maintain it unless the domain name do not link anything to your new website then maybe push down your ranking. So think properly that the domain name do suite to you or not.
