[Question] Targeting competitor keywords / New site content development

The biggest of the only 2 topical competitors I have in my niche is currently ranking no.1 for keywords ranging 0-5 in difficulty with search volume between 50-2000. I have no capital to pump out content so my question is, given this, with a new site and domain, am I right in thinking that I should be targeting all of the low search volume/low difficulty keywords first and focusing on informational content exclusively? At what point with my traffic should I then start targeting money articles?

It's not even as if those buyer intent keywords are even that difficult, but I just want to make sure I'm taking spending time initially creating content that won't perform as well in the first 6 months.

If so, how low in search volume should I be going in targeting keywords with search volume, 10, 50, 100? I know that's maybe hard to answer without specific metrics but, I don't want to be wasting time on articles that isn't going to get me anywhere. Or am I right in thinking that this doesn't matter right now given that overall, all pages will add towards being ranked and my DR regardless of the traffic it'll bring?

I Think I pretty much answered my own question here.

Just start somewhere, don't procrastinate like I do

Find 10-20 keywords that call out to you and which Ahrefs say they are 0-3 difficulty (and yes, Ahrefs will still be misleading for some of these keywords, but you need to start somewhere) and create some content on these keywords, submit the sitemap to GSC and see what happens over the next 30 days.

If you start getting traffic it means that your keywords are OK-ish and you need to find more keywords to create more content around until you see stable traffic coming in. How much of it, I don't know. It depends on what "good levels of traffic" means to you, but I'd recommend that you publish at least 50-60 articles before you check your traffic and make some calculations.

And if you do all these and your website sees no traffic for months.... it means that your website had been sandboxed, at which point you're at google's mercy and which might take 6-12 months before you get out of the sandbox. You could still build some backlinks (few and slowly, but increase their number gradually from month to month) and add more content as sometimes this ongoing activity does reduce the sandboxing period to only a few months (3-6) instead of 1 year or more.
