    Hey guys,

Wondering if you can help me, basically i run a music website which you can imagine is constantly updated with new news and music. Now my question is regarding WordPress SEO plugin as i've been using it for a month.

I'm just wondering if someone can guide me a bit with regards to using it properly as being a noob with this plugin in terms of filling in the details properly as it has three main areas.

    Focus Keyword:
    SEO Title:
    Meta Description:

The SEO Title i'm fine with but it's the Meta Description and focus keyword that concerns me. With the meta description i just tend to copy and paste the first line of my article/post and put it in. Am i right in saying this is correct or should i put a different MD to help me improve my searches.

With Focus Keyword i tend to put something similar with the title so if i have 'Busta Rhymes - song title' i put in the focus keyword that? Would this be correct or should i be doing this differently.

I have been reading articles about it but wanted to get help specifically with those two areas.

Also any other help would be great. Thank you.

Switch your plugin and use one of the following: all-in-one SEO , Yoast SEO plugin :)

They'll serve you much better , AIOS is beginner friendly whilst Yoast takes abit of getting use too.

Yoast is the easiest once you get used to it...there are youtube vids that will show you a basic set up.

Focus kw would be the track name and artist as this is what peeps looking for it would search for... An example would be: Baggy Trousers- Madness

Meta description Could then go: The Latest Madness track Baggy Trousers with Suggs and the boys giving it large.

The meta description tag is important in that you want to give the best description you can to get peeps to click your link in the serp (give them something to spike their interest as it is this line they will see first under the site/page title) but it should also contain the KW at least once.

    Great question!

For your meta description (as mentioned by a previous poster) you should include your focus keyword in some way and also make this compelling language. The meta description is what search engines use to give a brief description to searchers of what they will find when they click. Think of this as a marketing opportunity. Remember that at most, search engines will only show 160 to 170 characters of your meta description so don't make it too long and definitely use as many characters as search engines will show for you.

The focus keyword should be something that your page is built around. Ideally, each page should have a focus keyword that can be found in the copy, in meta tags, and alt tags. You may not want to use the artists name unless the entire page is about the artist. If the content architecture of your site is not designed in this way you may want to re-think how you have your content organized. For example if you have many other artists organized on the same page, you might want to think about making a specific page or genre for each type of artist/music.

Here are some excellent articles on content architecture and keyword research

Let me know if this helps,

Hey thecontentauthority, thanks for the post, will take a look tonight.

Another thing is i'm using Yoast already (just realised lol) but is their anything else to push my post up. I noticed i was being lazy on my part when it came to the SEO area and didn't follow it. Will Yoast help me improve my ranking even if other pages seemingly have similar posts?

Thanks for those articles matey... Some quite powerful information there. I have often heard of the term KW siloing without having a grasp of what it was about before. There is some serious stuff to be learnt from them.

Focus keywords are search phrases you expect people to access the page.
