Hi!

some clarification would be helpful. keyword planner shows ''Average monthly searches'' for a keyword to be around 200.000, but when I type the exact same term into google, only about 100 results come up?!

I am a bit confused here....

you might did something wrong, posting a screenshot would help us to tell you what went wrong on your side.

Average monthly search means the number of time the keyword is being searched by people in a month on an average basis. It does not mean the number of result pages google search shows.

sure, but isnt it weird that monthly searches are above 200.000 and google only comes up with a few hundred results?

How do you know it's only a few hundred? Are you clicking through to page 30? Or are you referring to when you enter the keyword into Google with "quotes" around it? If you're only seeing a few hundred with quotes around it something is probably wrong.

after trying it several times in the planner, it now doesnt find anything at all. So I guess it was some kind of problem..

Google Keyword planner seems to be playing up for me a lot tonight (UK) and keeps crashing so be wary of any results :)

The Keyword planner sometimes does something like that. I once spent a whole lot effort and cash into building up a website thinking I had found the holy grail of keywords and then got hit with only 10 visitors a day on position 1. Yet the KW planner still showed an average of 100k visitors for the key. Since then I always run a quick adwords campaign to test the waters before I fully commit to big keys. Only costs $20-100 depending on CPC and you can be sure not to waste a lot of hours and cash on something that is worth nothing.
