    I want to redirect my old site to a new domain, the purpose is just for visitors who may type our exact url into the search bar. Not to boost the ranking for the new site. What sort of redirection can achieve this?

    Thanks

    Disavow the old domain name on the new site, then redirect it.

    Still risky tho.

    I don't think that its possible to differentiate only type-in traffic from other users as the only indicator would be blank referrer which would apply also to people browsing with incognito mode or coming from google images and so on.

    do a meta refresh redirect.

    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL='http://www.newsite.com/'" />

    Remove your old site, make a new one. The new one will eventually rank for the brand name and the old one will drop off after a while.
