Question on url optimization

I have nearly 100 blogs on my site. I haven't optimized the url for any of the blogs so far. Now I'm planning to change the slug for the URLs of all the blogs and apply 301 redirect for all of them.
After changing the slug, and adding 301 redirect, do i have to update the new URLs to sitemap?
Is there any technical checklist i need to verify after doing this process?

Step 1 : Change old url to new
Step 2 : Redirect old url to new
Step 3 : Check sitemap is new url there?

Do this process slowly, it works imo

I need a small clarification regarding redirects..
For eg: Let's keep it Blog A has an internal link to Blog B. We have changed the slug and applied permanent redirect for both the blogs. In general, I understand the concept that we don't need to update internal link as we applied permanent redirects. However, for enhanced user experience, is it necessary to update the internal link with new url, so that the users will land on blog B immediately without any redirection?

Update external & internal links, Update the slug & apply 301 redirects , update xml sitemap, Monitor crawl errors, check ranking & traffic, Verify it.
 
If you are using any SEO plugin like Yoast then the new URL's will be automatically added / updated to the sitemap. Just make sure that you apply 301 redirect to the old URL and you should be fine. I strongly recommend a plugin 'Redirection' for 301 redirect.

Thanks! I've got backlinks from many sellers and agencies. Do I have to ask them to update my new url? I'm aware it is a tedious process, but i'm concerned if it would affect my site in terms of seo. Any clarification from you would be useful!
 
Usually the incoming link juice is passed on to the new URL so you need not worry. However you can contact those vendors who are willing to cooperate and update the link.

yes, you should update your sitemap. Also, make sure you update your internal links to point to the new URLs in order to ensure smooth user experience and to avoid broken or outdated links from happening.
 
Do we need to have the old urls as well for google to crawl or do we just need to update them with the new urls?
Like for old urls, old sitemap will be crawled for new urls, new sitemap will be crawled..? @Happy_Steph
 
After changing the URL slugs and applying 301 redirects to my blogs, I would definitely update the new URLs in my sitemap. It helps search engines discover the changes easily. Additionally, I'd make sure to check that the redirects are working properly, update internal links, and fix any broken links. Submitting the updated sitemap to search engines and monitoring traffic and indexing would be on my checklist as well. It may take some time for the changes to take effect, so patience is key.

when you implement 301 redirect, it is not necessary to keep the old URLs because Google will crawl based on the 301 redirect implementation. However, if you have any valuable backlinks pointed to the old URL, then you can opt for keeping the old URL to ensure when anyone clicks on the links are properly redirected to the new URLs, preserving traffic and link equity.
