Lets say I have a website with a variety of categories. For example www.website.com/toothbrushes which would have a list of articles about toothbrushes. If I pass a backlink to that category, would every article under it get the link juice?

I'm pretty sure google doesn't use a "juice" variable in their algo :D

But yeah, that's how its supposed to work in basic principle.

You'll dilute it though, as opposed to ranking one specific page. If that makes sense.

As said previously if we refer to the old methods like Pagerank sculpting, the juice will be divided by as many links present on the page. It also seems to me that the first link receives more. However, normally the best possible link should be in the waterline and surrounded by words belonging to the same semantic class, you still have to draw the best conclusion.

Yes it will.. But the effectiveness of the link juice gets divided so it will be very low for each article when compared to passing the complete link juice to one article

In short, yes it will pass link power but that will dilute it to much extent
