Question on iframes and search engines

Hopefully someone here would know this, but I was looking at how I might increase my keyword density on pages without resorting to anything spammy or black-hat (just for 1 site I have, I embrace BH on others )

Anyway, I know search engine bots read all text from your page, which would include the templated stuff in sidebars, headers and footers that's the same on every page, so my question is if I were to place everything except my primary page content and site navigation links into iframes shouldn't that increase my keyword density for the main content simply by lowering the overall text count on the page?

I know search engines can read iframe content, but as I understand it the iframe pages are viewed as separate pages by the bots, so in theory it seems like this would be useful, but I'd appreciate any thoughts/experiences from others before I go messing with my site since it's pretty huge and I'd hate to knock myself down in the SERPs by mistake.

AFAIK, any iframe content is counted as a separate entity, meaning bots will see them differently (correct me if Im wrong!). There is no need to use any BH to get good keyword density. check the link below for a good know how:

IsoRipper, thanks for the link. That page suggest (sort-of) what my goal is as a way to go, which is to reduce the number of bot read words on my pages in order to increase my actual keyword density.

I just want to avoid anything shady with this specific site, and since I don't think using iframes is shady at all I think it might be a good way to go provided the search engines won't include the framed content with the parent page.

For the purpose of keyword density settings, you can assume that the search engines can't see the iframes at all. However, if you have a noframe tag, the content inside that is visible to the search engines and can be used to manipulate the keyword density - one way or the other.

What is your keyword density at the moment? Don't overdo it. Make it look natural. Alternatively you can just build more backlinks from related sites that actually contain your keywords and obviously using your keyword in anchor.

Like I described, I don't want to use iframes to add keyword rich content, but rather to decrease the amount of non-optimized text content on my pages by placing headers and footers into iframes...and by reducing the amount of non-optimized text it will have the result of increasing my keyword density on the pages even though I didn't actually add any content, I just removed some from bot's view via the iframes.
