I am about to do a deal with a developer I found on here but since we come from different communities and therefor dont know eachother its hard to find a way to do a deal safely for both sides. Any suggestions? Middlemans for example? Thank you!
I am not really available these days but seriously, there are lots of talented developers here. Projects fail for a few reasons according to what I have seen.
1) The client does not know what is good vs what is bad... Does not have a concrete requirement. This results in sub points, sub sub points and so on.
To begin with the project, try doing a mvp yourself using chatgpt or something. You will atleast know what you are dealing with. Then start hiring people.
2) Someone is selling their soul for a penny.
If you want a good software, you have to pay for it. There is no shortcut to it. No, chatgpt does not cut it (not because it cannot, but because you do not know what is correct vs what is wrong).
3) Don't try to f your dev up for your profit (applies vice e verse). Let's say you guys agreed on something, which later became better known to be much more problematic. Don't F your dev up with what was agreed upon. In any kind of software development life cycle, requirements can and will change. As a result, budget will change. If it does not, it becomes troublesome for the dev. They don't like that project as much anymore. Things become worse from that point.
4) You don't know how to interview a dev. You ask for example projects. Dev shows you google.com and you think they really did it, and go with it. It does not work like that.
Ask for a project plan first. Some devs charge for that, some don't. See what they are planning, first, before you pay anything.
There can be more, but this is what came to my mind right now.
