I've got a couple of clients where device-types have been shifting. We all know "the world is going mobile" -- but my question is actually about tablets.

Normally, i don't give a crap about tablets (i dont optimize specifically for them - its desktop or phone). Tablets are not nearly as popular as they were, but are there any opinions on where that traffic is shifting to? My gut tells me phone.

Any opinions? thoughts? researched answers?

I think it is because mobile data is cheap and mobile is easy to carry if we compare (tablet or laptop). In developing country people might not have desktop but they mobile. Mobile is the game changer.

2nd hand source, I was talking to a colleague a while back and he mentioned a few tidbits:

- Tablets dominate media-consumption: Games (apps) and streaming (YouTube, Netflix, etc.), but not so much for regular browsing
- 30-50s y.o age range highest in tablet ownership, but they use them infrequently. Many hand them off to their young (2-8 y.o) children to keep them occupied
- Technically-declined individuals are more likely to use tablets often (women and old people)

That should be enough information for anyone to start getting a few ideas churning. One less-talked about method is accidental cc bills from young children, whose parent's tablets have one-touch pay systems. I imagine cc rebills are popular among people preying on senior citizens.
