Question - No Address

So we run small business where I provide chair, chair covers, table and table covers. I've been doing it for a year now and it's been a pretty good first year for me and my partner. Saying that, we could definitely have done better. We didn't have a website. All we had was a Facebook page until 4 days ago.

My question is.. We do not have a business address. We send our clients contracts and invoices and they have the option to email it back or mail it to my home address. We currently cover 10 counties in the UK. How do we rank our website? Through the use of local SEO (like the resources posted in this sub-forum) or regular SEO?

Both! "Regular" SEO just means you are working on ranking your website in the regular SERPS (when someone searches on google.co.uk) and "local" SEO is for the local results in Google Maps and other local directories. So for the latter you'd want to create a profile with Google Places (aka Google My Business) which is what will actually show up when someone searches in maps.

right, but to rank in that many counties In the local pack or in the maps, you will need to set up numerous fake physical locations. It is actually not that difficult do this if you know what you are doing.

You can still input your home address into Google+ and check the box that you are a service area that goes out to your customers. It won't list your address, but will instead list your service area. If you have not done this, it should help.

From there you can create virtual offices like mentioned above, or you can create a "service locations" section on your site. On there, list all the major cities you service in, and have a separate page for each of those locations, all with unique content.

That should get you started at least.

Get yourself a PO Box or use your accountant's address. Ask around how other virtual companies do it. You won't get any local traffic unless you have a verifiable local address.

do not use virtual addresses, most of those are already mapped out by Google. Also do not use a PO Box this absolutely does not work. There are other ways to do it that work much better and won't get you banned within weeks

you'll have to be creative or pay a local seo expert to teach you how to do it the right way. there are ways to get approved on google+ local but no one is goin to tell you for free! lol
