[question] how to avoid YT kids?

I have a yt kids channel. it's set made for kids. I have like 100m views a month, but 70% of them from YT kids traffic, which means 0 money. I'm so tired and frustrated. It feels like I'm doing my work for free. And I don't want that.
I have a friend who also makes around 100m a month. And his channel also considered for kids, but he doesn't get his traffic from YT kids (he makes lots of scary animation). So he makes around 40-50k a month. Whereas I make 15k.
I wanted to talk to someone who is also struglling or found a way to avoid yt kids. I mean, I don't want to start creating crap, but I think I will have to.

There are plenty of adult humour channels. Dungeon Soup is a good example. You could make something more adult, and change your settings so it doesn't default to kids, and over time delete all your kids videos.

there's really no safe way to avoid YT Kids traffic without changing the content style itself, you said your friend has scary animations eventhough it is a channel aimed at kids so maybe you could veer to that too, go with darker themes, layered humor, or storytelling that appeals beyond children

YouTube routes videos based on content signals, not just your settings.
If your visuals, themes, and audience signals look kid-focused, it will keep pushing them into YouTube Kids regardless.

that’s the problem with “made for kids” - low money. Your friend just sits in a wider audience, not pure kids. If you stay 100% kids, you’re stuck with that RPM. Only way is to shift content a bit broader.

Best move is to slowly shift toward a broader audience and add other income streams. Don’t flip everything at once, just adjust gradually.

there is an option to "do not set as not set for kids" but that won't make a difference if your content is recognized by youtube as kids content, youtube will automatically set it as kids content.
