Do you think small sites struggle more now because of algorithm changes — or because the ecosystem itself (ads, monetization, platforms) is slowly favoring only bigger players?

Feels like growing from small → mid has become harder than mid → big.

Curious how others see this in 2026.

Everything is difficult small mid big. Google can ding your site for number of reasons and even unknown reasons. To counter these have a few sites. Most seo who sell links here have handful to hundreds of sites. If you are not selling links or guest posts then target more then 1 search engine, Google, bing.

It’s a mix. Algorithms favor authority, and the ad/monetization ecosystem leans toward bigger sites. Small → mid is the hardest jump; mid → big is easier once you’ve built momentum.

Where did you get this information?)

I think it’s a mix, but not in the way most people frame it. Smaller sites aren’t necessarily blocked by algorithm changes alone, they’re often limited by signal density. Bigger sites accumulate brand searches, backlinks, behavioral data, and topical coverage over time, which compounds.

For smaller sites, growth from small to mid feels harder because they don’t yet generate enough reinforcing signals across multiple layers. Once that threshold is crossed, scaling tends to become easier.

Digital ecosystem is getting more competitive, but with the appropriate focus and consistency, growth is still feasible. It's frequently better to focus on establishing strong, targeted traffic and reliable interaction in your specialty than to worry about numbers. Small sites that stay flexible and give their users actual value can nevertheless grow over time.
