Question For Amazon Sellers

I've only been selling on amazon for about 5-6 months now. Was doing some research this morning found this interesting. Anyway..

Now, if you look carefully at the reviews, I found it by checking out the 1 star reviews, it seems like there are verified purchases for the "Screen Protector", which is currently what the item is showing as, and some saying they got a "lunch bag".

It appears the listing was Originally a "Lunch Bag", and the person switched it to a Screen Protecter? Like there are multiple verified purchases for a "Lunch Bag", and they even post pictures.

So here is my question, is repurposing listings like this a thing? Like try to build up reviews, and change it over? Never tried this, didnt even think it was a thing until I saw this.

I really can't see the point, I wouldn't buy based on those reviews. Like buying a car based on reviews for a food mixer

yea, i just dont see why someone would repurpose a listing on something else. thought I would ask though

I wonder how long they'll get away with it, something ive never seen before. Doesn't add confidence in the seller

Yes this is a thing, this is black hat amazon SEO, not widespread, but some do it.

You would be AMAZED at how many people look at the stars (or sort by review quality) but don't even look at the reviews themselves.

Not a longterm game, but definitely will be plenty of people buying stuff like this without noticing that the reviews aren't even the right product.

Really hoping Amazon steps up their game and addresses some of these issues soon. It's frustrating both as a consumer who uses Amazon heavily but is continually losing trust in the marketplace and as a seller having to compete with this crap while trying to build real brands...

If they don't fix it somehow, their confidence that their market dominance will make up for their short comings may just be their downfall just like happened to Sears and has been more recently happening to Walmart (though that's obviously not a complete cycle yet).

That just means they paid the money to sponsor it, like the "sponsored" listings on Google, doesn't say anything about the quality of the listing itself. I don't sell screen protectors, but I'm guessing it's competitive enough that you're not going to sell any/many without advertising regardless of how amazing your fake reviews are.

They could get away with the star ratings, but once the customers go to the reviews, they'll surely get disappointed. It's just a pointless process. -Micah

Have seen this on quite a few different products on Amazon. Playing with fire imho... those reviews will never go anywhere, so the evidence will always stick
