[Question] Expired domain should be indexed??

Some people say that a good expired domain should have great metrics and it should also be indexed in google ie site:expireddomain.com .


How important is that?

Not, when a domain expires and loses ll content Google will remove it from the index (why would they wanna have expired domains in their index) , doesn't mean at all that this is a bad domain, people who say that are stupid
 
Agree with fc-dh.
As expired domain has nothing new that Googlebot can crawl, why the system will keep it in indexed pages. If you make using this domain and add content, you will see the results in some weeks that Google bots has indexed the domain.
 
If the sites not indexed in google its possible it was hit by a penalty. Just stick with domains that are indexed to be safe.

Also do checks to make sure the domains backlink profile isn't spammy

Expired domains can be either still indexed in Google or completely removed from the index

1) if a domain is newly dropped, and it still got some pages indexed by Google, it makes sense right? (or in a rare case, backlinks are so strong, make it hard to remove a bit, just my guess)

2) if a domain is used years years back for example 2002, and then owner stop renew it, so 10 + years, Google no need index it anymore right?

So by judge a domain is good or not, you should combine more tools/things, for example

screenshots.com / archive.org, majestic/moz/or even ahrefs.com

at the very end of the day, if a domain got good backlinks, then its a nice expired domain, nothing else, metrics can be wrong. Hope helps
 
A good domain can remain indexed but that is no guarantee of anything other than it won't need to be indexed again when you start to put content onto it.

A good domain can also be not indexed, again this is no guarantee of anything and absolutely does not suggest that it is a bad domain or that it is not worth looking more deeply into it.

I would look to it being indexed as nothing more than a bonus to a good domain as opposed to an indicator of anything either way. It is true that if it is still indexed then it hasn't been banned and if it has remained indexed for a long time after being dropped that it is possibly a good sign but it is still important to do your due diligence and ensure that the backlink profile is clean and that the website has not hosted spam content in the past.

In short an indexed domain is nice but an unindexed domain could be just as good or better depending on the quality stats and their histories.

This is the dumbest advice i have ever heard on expired domains for two reasons,

1) you have the expired domain, the domain is expired 6 month ago, why would Google keep the site in the index, it doesn't make any sense for Google to keep empty domains listed in the index.

2) I have recently dropped about 30 domains, they all were penalized for some dumb 301 shit i did, they never recovered, so i let them go, but they are still indexed, are you telling me that you would buy them, well good luck ranking them.

Indexed or not it doesn't mean ANYTHING at all...

Not at all, if you ask me. Sometimes a domain has been dropped for a couple of months. Doesn't mean it's a penalized one, it just means Google couldn't find any content to index.

If everything else checks out (anchors,links, archive), I'd buy it.
 
if you buy from somebody or on auction, or just expired, have to be indexed, or good change that the domain is penalized, if you buy it between the expired domains, and is expired for a while, may be penalized but there is not certainty.

And also domain indexed may be penalized too....don't forget it

Either way it goes without saying that one should do full research before buying an expired domain. A site that's expired recently and isn't indexed is just one of the possible danger signs. This is something many reputable members say regularly.

Personally i never had an issue with an expired domain following that advice tbh

Domains gets de-indexed when google finds that it is no more registered or has been dropped, but this de-indexation is not a penalty, just that the domain do not hold any content hence no value for google to keep it in its index.

Of course, the only method to ensure that the domain was not used for spam or as PBN earlier is to check the backlink profile as well as few archive websites like archive.org and screenshots.

Even after doing all this, you might still land up with a lemon in your hand. That is part of the game.
 
About 3 years back (when I first got into IM), expired domains would not get de-indexed when they dropped. At that point checking whether an expired domain was indexed was a good way to figure out if it was penalized or not before purchasing it.

However, over the last few years as soon as Google notices that a domain has dropped it immediately de-indexes it. Therefore now days, you can never be sure whether the domain was penalized or not.

What you can do is - go ahead and buy the domain if all the back links, wayback content and metrics check out. However, do not link to your money-site till the domain gets indexed.

I would suggest putting up a simply one page website up, and waiting for the domain to get indexed before creating any new content. If the domain does not get indexed in 2 to 4 weeks, accept it as a cost of "doing business" and walk away from it.
