    Hi, I have a question:

Does Niche Relevance Really Matters or the quality of backlinks is more important?

I want to say the content from the linking page will be relevant to my niche, but the rest blog should be niche relevant as well? It has better impact to be niche relevant?

    Thanks

I was thinking about this as well. I'm interested to see other opinions but i think of course the content surrounding your link is most important of course, but i think the niche of the entire site is also important - if you think how Majestic SEO shows the niches that a site is known to be about, that should give you an idea of its importance.

I was also thinking today as well, that Google must look at neighbourhoods of links, and maybe different sites are almost irrelevent in this analysis, but rather they just take all pages together, and what each page is about and how they are connected to the next page, and then put this into like just a big map of topics and I guess if you done this you would see big groupings of topics and then just small overlaps - like for example if you had autoratative sites about cars, and you zoomed out you would probably see a big neighbourhood of pages about cars and everything related to cars, all pooled together, and then that big neighbourhood might overlap with like cleaning products, and loads of pages about that etc etc.

So then if you had a site about cars, and it had a page all about health, and a link out to a health site (A different neighbourhood entirely) then it would be relevent in terms of the text surrounding the link, but it would be like a lone site in a foreign neighbourhood and so I am guessing that would hold less value than a link from a site all about cars that had links to and from other sites about cars.

I guess as well this is why SILO sites work well because you are further defining that neighbourhood where a topic is lnked to and from other pages of the same topic......

Yes,of course, it really matters a lot.If google checking the backlinks of your site,it came from different domains not related to your site means google will look it like suspicious and it may hurt your site. So,try to get links from your niche related domains and you can use general sites too.

What others suggested is the BEST option. Go for both niche relevant high quality sites. This is one of the traditional natural way of building backlinks to your site.

I think that its a matter of how relevant at this point.
if your back link point to an irrelevant page it means higher bounce rate.
if a specific article is relevant to the back link that's good. but if all the site is relevant, then you will have better traffic.

The general consensus is that niche relevance matters a ton. I'm inclined to believe it, but I'm awfully skeptical.

Consider this recent study by Stone Temple: https://www.stonetemple.com/links-remain-a-very-powerful-ranking-factor-study/

They didn't look at relevance at all. Solely at links. And even just the number of links, with no regard to authority (much less relevance), mattered a great deal.

Or consider this note by Google that a site will not be penalized for linking out, and the implication that linking out doesn't help: http://www.thesempost.com/no-google-penalty-not-linking-site/

Putting the two together I think calls into question the absolute need for niche relevance.

Personally, I think niche relevance matters in two instances: (1) where the linking site is very low authority, and so the link is wholly disregarded unless it's high-quality and relevant and (2) the need for links / anchor text to bear some relevance to the text just to pass basic spam filtering. But this may only apply in cases of heavily spammy pages with an excessive number of links.

I think in most instances quality links beat "relevant" links. Personally I wish it wasn't so, and I know this is "so 2009" or whatever to say, but empirically I've yet to see anything showing "relevant" links making a great difference over "irrelevant" links.

everything you said is spot on, authority wins over relevance any day.
