Question: does having "your latest posts" home page on WordPress affect SEO?

I have recently started my second blog and posted quite the number of posts already, and I have been keeping my posts simply on the home page by having the WordPress display them there, but after talking to a few people regarding this, and the SEO aspect, I can't come to a resolute conclusion, on whether it effects or not.

Positively, it's not necessary though. There are many other ways to rank a web page.

Yes, I am only doing it out of necessity or perhaps, due to a lack of knowledge in methods of doing it otherwise.

but there was this person who suggested that I make a separate Home page and use a plugin of some sorts and display the posts by, recent, popular, category.

I wanted to do that, but I couldn't find a free plugin to help me with it and left the website on its own.

I was afraid that my site would not rank because I did not do as suggested, thank you, now I can go back to focusing on my content.

In my humble opinion it does,

Since the authority of your main page is much higher than the rest of the website, having your other page links on it must boost the authority of those pages.
