If I change a website from html to word-press, what is the best way to keep the page back links?

I am doing a redesign for a local business with really shabby work. The home page has /default.html. Is there anything special I need to do to keep the SEO juice it already has on it?

There are no inner pages but each page is the same. about-us.html, photos.html, the whole nine :(

IMO, remain the existing html page and set permanent redirection on each page to your wordpress site.

Yep use 301 redirects for old structured links you can do this via .htaccess or the simple 301 redirect Wordpress plugin
