Yeah guys, I used to do Adwords but didn't really make use of it much and stopped later.

Now I wish to learn again, but all the ebooks I've downloaded from the Downloads Section is all "similar" and basic in the way. It doesn't dwell much on advanced topics like bidding, .etc.

Any guys can recommend me a guide/download to learn more about Adwords?

Will +34 Reps for good answers.

Lots of things have changed on Adwords and Analytics such as how they focus on mobile, enhanced campaigns, retargeting, google merchant center etc. Not sure how long you havent touch Adwords, but its definitely not the old days where you can bid $0.01 keywords.

Start from basics, go watch their youtube official channel. I know their HELP/Knowledge base used to suck, but not anymore. I actually find them quite helpful. Oh, and it's free. so yeah.

I don't learn from any books but it is from my own experience. And I did read one book: I think it's "Google Adwords" from Entrepreneur Publisher.

That book shows basic Google Adwords technique and sales copy. I also recommend you to take Adwords test and learn from Adwords test materials if you are serious about Adwords.

What is your specific question for bidding?

The thing with books and online tutorials are that they become outdated very fast. Adwords is making changes faster than ever nowadays. For example, a few years ago, they have 'website optimizer' for A/B testing, now that's gone and replaced by another feature known as 'content experiment'.

Then there are new features like enhance campaigns, that allow you to tweak and make changes to your desktop & mobile campaigns easily. It's so flexible now that you can just do -10% bid budget for all mobile devices etc. whereas back then, (I believe), Perry Marshall was suggesting making 2 separate campaigns for this purpose. Of course, at that time, he was 100% right, but things have changed.

If you read the wrong/outdated guide, you will miss out a lot. Again, Google adwords youtube channel is pretty updated, along with Google Hangout discussions. Its FREE. So why not use that.

By all means, if you just want to get a basic understanding of the dashboard, interface and where things are etc., go to your local library, grab a copy and start reading. The rest is really about how motivated you are to keep up to latest changes on Adwords.

The company I work for got an audit from a company called Certified Knowledge.

The audit was very thorough but ridiculously expensive. However, their site has a lot of great stuff on it and they also have a book on Adwords. Not sure if it's any good, but I've learned a lot just reading through their site.

Obviously you can bid 0.01 keywords, I do it a lot! But you can not start with such a bid in the beginning. Once you campaign is established, get some good numbers in CTR and other things, you can bid 0.01 and be in top 3 results. But timing is everything when it comes to bidding in Adwords.

Thanks for bringing this up. To be fair, maybe you are right. But I haven't came across profitable keywords that are as low as $0.01 for my campaigns anymore (search network only). I also usually opt out for display advertising and search partners as I find them not too profitable for my campaigns, so perhaps those are still possible.

I noticed you are from central Europe, so maybe things and competitions are a little different there?

Anyways, I personally believe that the bottom line for ANY adwords campaign is ROI. It doesnt matter how much you bid as long as it's profitable, while you might get $0.01 bid keywords, those alone might not get enough impressions or conversions. That's just my 2 cents.

You are correct, ROI is what matters. That's correct. However, sometimes CPC is what makes a difference for me between campaign with positive and negative ROI :).

While I am from Central Europe, all my IM efforts target either US or Canada or UK. My average CPC in all campaigns is 0.03. But the fact is, that my campaigns are quite niche oriented, I rarely get more than 50K impressions in a week, on all campaigns.

Regarding search partners: I prefer search network only, similarly to you. Clicks from mobiles are also not really profitable, so what I do is to set CPC for it really low, like 30% of desktop bid. Any ideas from your side are more than welcome.

I think the latest enhance ad from adwords force all to have your ad view in mobile too. Cheap move by google, normally people do not take action in buying thru phone, except apps.

Not really. You can always put -100% for mobile impressions/campaigns. They just made it a little harder to disable mobile campaigns. That's all.

I recommend the books of Perry Marshall too. Allthough the things now are not the same, allways is good idea to learn the basics. Also I´d recommend my book, but is in spanish.
