Hi Friends,

Was doing a search and found some sites available with .net extentions...but i still think .com sites are worth more.

What are the facts...are .com sites worth more?

Does it matter?

What about names with a "-" between them?

For example "los angeles -dentist.com?"

Will this affect rankings...

What's your opinion..?

Thank you!

well all tld do good in SERPS. But if a dot com is available then i prefer going for it. Cause it sounds good :)

If you have hyphens between the domain (then from SEO point of view its not a big issue either) But for a user its not that easy to type all that to visit your website.

I always prefer characters only with a COM extension. Org, net, hyphen will all rank however. Just doesn't look as clean, and should be avoided if you're building a brand.

What are the facts...are .com sites worth more? -- They are easier to remember and type (ctrl + enter) , but if a .com domain name is taken and is not being used , .net/org etc will show up in search results instead of parked/unused domain.

Does it matter? -- Same , and if its a brand you are trying to setup , .com's help

What about names with a "-" between them? -- Wont advice ,unless you making a churn and burn website

For anyone interested there is a good site where you can check out pricing for http://www.3character.com/priceguide.html (.COM) compared to other TLDs.

.NET have 10 times lower price compared to .COM

Lots of other factors when it comes to pricing but .COM prices are still way in front of other TLDs

thanks Buds....NOW, what about strictly for SEO purposes only?

for example like a lead site?

A .com is mostly easier and with less effort / links to rank, followed by .net and .org (equal). It still seems that a .com is more trustworthy, even-though it's changing with all the upcoming new TLDs...
Cheers
Dan

I always go with .com and no hyphen if possible.

Germans don't seem to mind hyphens when buying domains, no idea why.

You would guess that for leads people would trust a .com and would be more willing to give their details to a site that they trust, having said that unless there is empirical evidence to back it up it is only a hypothesis. The younger the audience you are targeting the less of a s*** they will give, youngster seem to give their details to any old s*** app these days.

I always prefer .com and no dashes or anything in between. If you can't get the exact match, I usually prefer a partial match.

.com is easier to remember (but people only type high quality authority sites when searching like CNET, NY Times etc..., 99% percent of traffic you'll get from search engines and social) but the most importan factors are content, backlinks etc... there are many examples where .net extension is ranked better than .com..... As far as hypens in domain name, same like with the extension... If you have good and quality website it doesn't matter...

Hyphens not super relevant - not many people are actually typing in a full domain name vs. hitting a link.

.com is valuable because it sticks on everyone's mind from the start of the internet.

"dot com" sounds better in word-of-mouth advertising.

Blah bah blah dot org is not the same as blah blah blah dot com.
