Question about Wise

Hi everyone. I have a question that I doubt many have the answer to. There's something strange with Wise, it seems the USD details they provide for withdrawal are a different type for each account. My account has ACH routing number, Wire routing number and account number. Account is 3+ years old. My friend's account which was made in December 2021 only has ''account number and wire number''. You might wonder why that matters to me. I use Wise to withdraw from a not-very-popular marketplace and I have stealth accounts there. When I withdrew money to my own Wise with the details above from an account that wasn't in my name, the transfer went through. When my friend tried the same, Wise rejected the payments because of 'name mismatch'. Both from the same company, both for the same amount. I tried it on another new Wise and it was rejected again. 3 days ago, I put in my own details on another account and... there were no problems. It's super strange why that happens, why they'd allow a name mismatch for my accounts but not for the other ones and why we have different USD details?

Also, if anyone reading this has a lot of experience with that company, would a business Wise account fix that issue and would I be able to withdraw money and receive them without issues even on a name mismatch?

Similar issue was faced by someone I know. Here is how you could solve it. To receive funds you provide the sender with your wise provided ach / routing number and account number and receiving even incase of name mismatch.
Make a note of your ach / routing number and give that to your friend and tell him to request wise support to allot him or rather replace his allotted ach / routing number with the same one as your's. (Ofcourse obviously the account number got would be different).
Just like cards have different bins, and some cards can transact with name mismatch & some cannot, similar also even with ach routing numbers.

In case of ACH transfer the name mismatch is not an issue, it is for wire transfer. Since your old account has ACH routing number and the transfer goes through there, but not to the accounts without ACH routing number, i'm sensing, this is the problem.

ACH routing numberWire routing number
  • Only people or businesses in the US or with a US bank account can use ACH to pay you
  • Best for being paid a salary or receiving earnings from platforms like Amazon and Stripe
  • Best if you’re not in a rush
  • Usually free or cheaper than a wire transfer for the payer
  • To accept payments, your account holder name may not need to completely match the account name on the ACH payment
  • People inside the US can use your wire routing number to pay you
  • Best if your payer intends to make a same-day wire transfer
  • Can be more expensive for the payer than ACH
  • If your payer has an account in certain countries outside the US, you can reach out to us so we can generate the SWIFT code from your wire routing number, which they can use to pay you
  • To accept payments, your account holder name must entirely match the account name on the wire transfer

Ah, so the issue is likely that I need ACH. Wish I had another account with an ACH routingnumber to test a withdrawal to. I wonder if anyone knows if Wise have completely stopped giving new accounts ACH numbers? Also, if anyone has an account like this and wants to sell it, we can try linking it (works like paypal, you add your details and they send 2 small transactions, then you have to input the right amounts they send and your account is verified). If we can verify it like this, I'm willing to buy it.

for me the same. old accounts name mismatch no issue, not on personal not on business. but new accounts even got closed down after name mismatch payments arrived
