Question about website and ranking

I run a mobile gaming website and I have been stuck at number two in ranking for the past three weeks. The website above me has a higher authority of course, but I am constantly updating the website with new high-quality content, but would a better social presence help my site out?

I have yet to create a facebook, twitter, tumblr, and all of those and link them to my new content to those websites. I have bought some blog comments and created some web 2.0s backing them up with social bookmarks and wikis. Should I just give it more time since my site is only about 2 months old?

You need to be building backlinks on a regular basis to start seeing results. Build slowly and steadily, don't make something stupid like making tons of backlinks at once!

Depending on how strong is your competitor it might take little or much time to wait till you beat him down..

Since you are already #2, probably it will be best to try to get some high quality, high pr, do follow links straight to your website
 
you need to hire SEO specialist for ranking your website....
 
Absolutely build up your Social Media Presence. Fanpage Twitter Account, etc. Update them regularly, attach feeds so that they post whenever you post. Build some more high quality links... chill bro you're #2 , and the site above you is high authority. Take it easy just expand your online presence the same way you would a business. The last thing you want to do is get greedy, overdo the links and end up with a penalty.
 
You are fighting blind-folded unless you take the time to study the competition. Ahrefs is one of many options you have to explore your competitor's backlink profile.

Dear friend, you have done so well in making your site a potential victim to Google's update.

Content publication is not backlinking and won't get you any significant ranking.
Besides you have to understand that you are on number 2 and for you to
outrun the number one site you have to have MORE and Quality links.

Just like PR, moving from PR0 to 3 is easier than moving from PR3 to 4.

You are on number 2 and not number 20, so relax, do what you can
and consistently too. Above all, don't compromise the quality of links.
 
1. Check your competitor's link profile using ahrefs.com and other tools. Find out where they're getting links and try to do the same.

2. Yes, build out social media. Not for the links/social signals, but to show Google that you're a "brand".

3. Do some public relations. Getting press coverage in targeted media or blogs kills two birds with one stone: gets you high quality traffic and gets you high quality links.
