Question about <title> tags

I'm curious to know how you guys structure your <title> tags.

I have a site where I'm targeting 2 main phrases that both contain "how to"


My question is what is the most effective method to do this?

These are my example phrases:
how to get fit
how to lose weight

1. <title>How to lose weight - How to get fit</title>

2. <title>How to lose weight, Get fit</title>

Would the 2nd be more effective as it would allow a bit more room to maybe add another term and not break the Google 62 character limit?

Also does Google care what order the words are in the title?

so would my 2nd example work for How to get fit?

For the SE it is important to have the keywords there (for now). For the users it is important to coincide with their search string as the title is the first thing they see. It'll cover four keywords and the most common variation of the third one. Just my exp.

I personally like to remove stop words from the title whenever possible, so words like the, I, a, that are a no go unless they are part of a keyword.

For your example above, I would use one How to only followed by the dominant keyword (that gets more traffic or is the core of the article). You should consider adding another related word to the title and an action word like Fast or anything like that is also never wrong but it is mainly for the users, not the search engines even though I can image that a lot of people are looking for how to lose weight fast.
