So, I've got a website that I want to obviously do better with SEO.

I've been reading a great deal on tier building, and this is what I've come to understand.

You have the site you want to promote

You make blogs/PBNs with the same niche and then fill this up with content and throw your main sites link in there

Then you buy backlinks/guestposts/etc for the blogs/PBNs.

Is that it? Am I missing something? What are things to watch out for when doing this?

You've got a good rough idea around the topic.

However, things to watch out for? There's loads... Too many to go into detail tbh. I'd advise reading up about this (there are loads of other threads on it). But more importantly, trial and error - Just go try it and see what works :)

Good luck

I guess a good question I have is, how many PBNs with backlinks supporting them does one need? Is it better to have 3 PBNs with lots of content and lots of backlinks than to have 20 PBNs with minimal content and minimal backlinks going to them?

It's not really about the number of backlinks to a PBN site that matters, it's the quality. Build them with expired domains that already have good metrics. I would personally choose 3 high quality PBN sites over 20 low quality sites

Make sure you diversify your anchor text when creating links

Anchored text on the PBNs going to the main site or the Guestposts/etc going to the PBNs

Anchored text on the PBNs going to the main site or the Guestposts/etc going to the PBNs

All of it. If you build your PBN correctly with aged domains that already have good backlinks I wouldn't actually build more links to those. You should have some web 2.0s as well for tier 1 and other types of links such as guest posts. Those are what I would build tier 2 links to.

A good PBN is made from aged domains with high authority backlinks already in place

If you build a PBN from fresh domains it won't have as much power. If you do it this way you can build links to them.

But yeah, diversify all of your anchors and link out to other random sites in your niche from you PBN

Lots of useful information. I love the idea of buying old domains with authority.

Last question: "You should have some web 2.0s as well for tier 1 and other types of links such as guest posts." For some reason this confuses me.

First tier links should be more than just PBNs pointing to your money site. Create some web 2.0 blogs, guests posts, social profiles, even niche relevant blog comments (go easy on those).

Diversification is key here as well
