Hi all,
I've been having a problem with a project for a few years now, and I've decided to take action on it in 2022. In the last years I kind of ignored the project, although it cost me a lot of money for programming.
It is a portal for a specific region in my country and for a specific industry. I take as an example crafts in New York (no, it is neither crafts nor New York). So then I have categories for Plumbers in New York, Electricians in New York, Painters in New York, etc. Providers can register themselves and post an entry for their category.
In some categories my portal has up to 12 entries, yet the pages rank extremely poorly. I could imagine that it has to do with thin content, because the providers all write very few words. Of the 190 pages in the index, over 120 pages don't even have 200 words. In addition, my site has very little authority because I have not done any active link building from the beginning.
Does anyone have experience with whether Google penalizes pages with little authority and thin content, and whether thin content is ok for Google if the authority is higher? After all, my competitors have the same problem, but they usually rank two to three positions in the top 5, but unlike me, they have DR >50 (mine is single digits).
Thanks in advance to anyone who can contribute something to my problem!
