Question about social networking

I know linking is where you leave your link on other sites but on social networking do I just create a new account and add my link on the page with no friends? Is that what everybody is doing? Or do I have to have friends too?

Your question is a little unclear, which type of social networking sites do you mean? Places like Facebook and MySpace or do you mean Social Bookmarking sites like Digg? But to answer in my own case, I create a profile and fill in the "about me" if there is an "about me" section and add 2 of my links in the "about me" section. I try to make the links fit into the "about me" look natural. For example, I'd write: Hey I'm a fun kinda person and like to keyword link and read about keyword link. It doesn't look spammy and I've had a lot of success keeping my profiles alive. You don't have to have any friends to post your links.
