Hi there guys,

I have an article which rakes in quite some traffic. Just noticed competition on that very topic and few of them are being placed over me in the SERP's.

Question is. Should I update that same article? and add more length to it .. OR

Create a new article on that same topic with more content?

Appreciate your feedback!

Update and improve existing article.

If you write another article for the same keywords then you might have cannibalization issue.

Thanks for the response mate!

you reckon it would retain/improve its SERP positions if I add more content toit?

From experience, I've had mixed results.
So what I do: take an article and improve it, then wait and see how search engines re-act, if rankings improve then I move on and if article tanks then I revert to the older version and re-do the improvement. Just make sure you wait for weeks before drawing conclusions.

Definitely update the existing article. There is no point in outranking yourself.

You should add more articles to the related things around the topic, so you don't just have a single article to rely on, and so you can interlink your site, and make it more interesting.
