question about SEO friendly links

Say my keyword was "hot pancakes" and domain name "somedomainDOTcom" which is better: If I use somedomainDOTcom for link building for my main keyword article or if I use somedomainDOTcom/hot_pancakes and then 301 redirect that to somedomainDOTcom? Or if I use somedomainDOTcom/hot_pancakes as my main KW sales page and link building and just redirect somepageDOTcom to the main KW article without touching it further?

I hope you understand what I'm trying to do. EMD or even partial isn't an option unfortunately.
