Question about Referring Domains

I've been scraping some expired domains lately and come across a few domains with high metrics like 30-40 TF and 15+ DA/PA.

These domains are usually from very established sites where they accidentally typed in the wrong website, such as wallmart.com instead of walmart.com, tecnology.com instead of technology.com (you get the idea).

That being said, most of these (wrongly typed) domains have only ONE referring domain.

My question is, are they worth anything? Is the expired domain as good as any other high metric domains as long as their backlinks don't get removed? What is the explanation behind the high demand for high referring domains? Are they all for the sake of "so you don't lose the domain's metrics" overnight?

Higher numbers of referring domains has a positive correlation with improved rankings, which probably has something to do with it.

RD (referring domains) is a good metric (but can be misleading as all of them) of the strength of a domain. So here RD =1 is not high obviously.

The number of backlinks and RDs has to look reasonable, it's scary when you see 10k backlinks coming from 20 RDs ( as an example).

Single ref domain no matter how strong it is simply is not enough to justify building a PBN nor even for 301 redirect. Metrics are meaningless in this case.

Are you saying this based on assumptions and speculations or do you have a reference to a proven cast study regarding this?

Mate, sometimes common sense is enough. If you have one domain with link from nwtimes.com and another with backlinks from nwtimes.com AND latimes.com you dont need a case study to find out which domain is better..

Judging by your "common sense", would you say domain A with 1 backlink from washingtonpost is worth LESSER than domain B with 100+ backlinks from low tier sites (article directories, web2.0, press releases, forum profiles and so on)?

Upon reading your post again... You're asking a no brainer question. Of course the second domain with nwtimes and latimes is much better than your first domain with only 1 link from nwtimes. It's OBVIOUS.

My question is, are expired domains with ONLY 1 link from washingtonpost (DA/PA 15+ and TF 30-40) worth anything?

RD is a measure of strength: starting at 0, then 1, then 2,...100 is decent, 200 strong, 500 impressive, 1k potent, 10k humongous, etc.
So you can see where 1 stands on the scale of things, just next to zero and below 2.

I mean like sure, of course it's great if you have 100s of backlinks coming from very established sites like techcrunch or gizmodo. It's a no brainer. That domain is probably worth thousands.

Would you consider an expired domain with just only 1 RD and BL from TechCrunch useless even though they have really high metrics (15+DA/PA and 40 Trust Flow)?

Read my post again then. If expired domain with say 30 RDs and link from nwtimes cost about $15-$20, how much would cost domain with ONLY nwtimes link? And the answer is not enough to justify registering the domain ($8-10), hosting ($12 per year at least), building the PBN ($20+). The only viable option is to register the domain for $0.99 using some promo code and use 301 redirect. Otherwise those domains are completely useless regardless of the metrics.
