You need each website to be a loner ,and build each website to be powerfull on it own, and point to the main website.
If you interlink your wasting your time and goolge will penalty you .
If you use the website's ,for pbn your also need to use one host on every website, and build up links for every website.(( need to do lot more, but that ,the idea for pbn
Dont no why your thinking of interlinking all the time , forget that rubbish, do what we say and your succeed....

I asked for evidence because such statements are misleading.
If you own several powerful sites and add links from all of them to your money site there will be no harm done and ranking of money site will improve. No doubt implementing such tactics on larger scale will cause problems.

Don't link them each other, huge footprint and also I don't see any benefit from it.
Just host them as individual in different hostings and link them to your money site with a diversity of anchor texts.
Also if you want, after you can build some expired web 2.0 for each pbn to power up a bit. Although the purpose of pbns is because they already have backlinks and authority.

I somewhat see a case study by Spanish and look similar as OP's question, in that case study, this group the people build thousands of web2.0 food blog and link like this:
A-B B-C C-D D-E E-F (F never link back to E)
So basically, there is no way to get a "relation" guess between them, and the result is god damn cool, with nearly dominated the web.20 platform of Spanish, in food niche.
Well, it is an old case study, and I use Google translated to read it, though its interesting, but consider this is 2017 and the ROI, I wont do that for sure!
Because its only ask for trouble for yourself, and this way gives you no apparent benificials if you got a limited PBN/web2.0 numbers.

Top 5 Golden Rules about PBN,
- Never Interlink your network sites (this means don’t link one PBN site to another).
- Only link out to your site a maximum of 3 times on the homepage and use varied anchor text (Keyword, raw URL and keyword variation)
- Don’t use spun content for your PBN sites (unique content of 300-600 words is plenty, add an image and video and your golden)
- Add other authority outbound links (OBL) to your articles (wiki, youtube etc)
- DO NOT sell links on your sites – keep all that lovely link juice for yourself
