I'm in the USA so I use $.

What happens If I sent $10 to someone in the UK? Will the money automatically be converted and transfered?

Or is it a good idea for me to send it as Euros?

Wait, UK uses GBP? Person I talked too said he uses £ (Euros) and he's in the UK. Sorry, I don't know much about what currency is used in other countries.

It won't automatically convert unless you are buying an item that the seller is selling in pounds. If you just send someone $ then they will get it in $ and have to use PayPal currency conversion in order to get the money into their bank accounts, which sucks because PayPal give a shitty rate.

£ is the symbol for GBP, the currency of the UK. € is the symbol for euro, used in many mainland European countries, which formally had independent currencies, eg deutschmark (germany) and franc (france). Each country in the euro CURRENTLY maintains its sovereign status (and sovereign debt).

I see. I got the symbols confused.

    + Thanks to everyone.

So since I"m using $, if I send someone money (as a gif) and select €, will they get it in €? Or will I have to use another method?

If you select to send them euro's then they will get it in euro's. HOWEVER you will be the one taking the hit using PayPals currency conversion rates UNLESS you have money in that currency in your PayPal account already OR the currency in question is the base currency of your country (which in this case it isn't).
