Question about page rank?

I just bought a PR3 domain that is in my niche I plan on 301 redirecting it to my money site. The domain was registered in 2001 and has no quality backlinks, additionally it looks as if it has been parked for a long time. What I don't understand is why the hell it has a PR3? I've check a few sources and it appears to be a legit PR3. Is it because of it's age?

Google Toolbar PageRank is a snapshot in time, not up-to-date.

Possible explanations for the PR3...

1) There was a high PR site(s) linking to the PR3 domain (at the time of the snapshot) but that link(s) has since been removed.

2) The backlink checker you are using has missed some high PR links.

3) It's not legit and whatever sources you are using are inaccurate.

Depends on your perception of "quality". Have you found out the pr of it's backlinks (I.e. linking urls)?

it may have high pr backlinks from trusted domain !!

If that domain is having PR even after the latest PR update most probable it is good. But, check with most backlink checkers, there must be a good domains linking to it.
