Question about my site and a blog

I'm thinking about creating a "blog" for my main site, somewhat for personal use, but also to fill with keywords hopefully. I'm thinking it'd be similar to one like blog.y0utube.com, etc. I was wondering, though, whether it'd be best for SEO if I hosted the blog on a subdomain, like blog.mysite.c0m, or had all the files in some other folder, like mysite.c0m/blog/post.html, or just had it hosted on another site entirely, like blog.blogspot.com

Does anyone have thoughts or experience with this? If the blog would not help my search engine ranking, then I will not create it at all too.

between the blog.mysite.com and mysite.com/blog go with the later for SEO purposes.

and if your going to have it on your own domain, why not just do both? the free hosting (blogger or blogspot or whatver) and on your domain?

Thanks for the advice. Given that I wouldn't want to create any additional content, would I still want it on both the free hosting and my domain?

maybe just mix it up a little on the free hosting - like change the wording and what not
but yeah, its worth it, its just another source of traffic. i have loads of blogs which just support my real sites by having loads of relevant keywords and link into my real sites

blog.mysite.com would be the best
